When a tree falls in the woods…

Sometimes it hits something special – like the beautiful information kiosk at the entrance to Beechwoods Park. The windy snowstorm on 3/3/19 caused a Beech tree to fall, which destroyed the kiosk in a direct hit. The “before” photo is the RIGHT lower one (taken March 2017) and the other four photos show the extent of the damage.  In April 2012, for his Boy Scout Troop 616 Eagle Project, Nick Venezia constructed the trail leading to Blanche Brook, built this information kiosk at the entrance to the park and re-purposed downed logs into benches at the Blanche Brook end of the trail. Over the years other Boy Scouts have extended the trail, and built more information signs, allowing the public to better appreciate and enjoy this lovely park. The Harrington Park Environmental Commission and Green Team hopes to work with the Boy Scouts this summer to replace the information kiosk. The trail remains open with the entrance to the park off Beechwood Place. We invite you to visit the park!
