For more than 25 years Harrington Park citizens have enjoyed skating at George St Park in the winter. The large field is usually flooded by the fire department in the middle of December. Last year, (if you remember?), it was warm through December and the flooded field did not freeze until the second week of January.
This year, with unseasonably warm temperatures through most of December, the field has not yet been flooded. DPW Chief Mark Kiernan did block the drain and the water pictured here (on Dec 27th) has accumulated naturally from rainfall and the ducks and dog walkers are enjoying a balmy afternoon. Today the temperatures are dropping and with expected lows in the 20’s next week, the field will soon be flooded…and another Harrington Park winter tradition will happen!
