Why did the turtle cross the path?

To get to the other side to lay eggs? Turtle 1

This is a Common Snapping Turtle, (Chelydra serpentine). EC member  Cindy Kennedy photographed it walking across the footpath that circles Pondside Pond last week. turtle 2

This freshwater turtle lives in muddy and slow running streams, ponds and marshes. Females leave the water in early summer to lay their eggs—which may be what this one was doing.
