Barrel rolling and beer – the fall woods cleanup was a success!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe woods south of the HP swim club contain Green Acres property. We focused on the wetlands and woods on either side of Dorotockey’s Run up to Lafayette (from the swim club to Hackensack). This was the site of an old farm and there is still quite a bit of old junk deep under the brambles towards the train tracks. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEven though the area was cleaned a year and a half ago, we did find some “treasures” including three tires and a broken traffic cone in the creek >> the boys happily rolled two to the collection site (the third remains buried in the mud). barrel rolling 11_8_14

We also rolled three rusting barrels out of the woods, picked up several glass and aluminum bottles, and found quite a few old “pop top” drink containers , which were last sold in the early 1980’s!

We filled one barrel with trash and one with recyclables.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The cleanup was sponsored by the Harrington Park Environmental Commission and Green Team in conjunction the Bergen County Clean Communities Program.

A huge thank you to Councilwoman Michelle Ryan who coordinated this cleanup! And thank you to Mark Kiernan and the DPW for picking up the collected items. The Green Team plans to hold a spring and a fall cleanup in 2015. Please contact us with any comments or suggestions of areas to clean up next year > hpgreenteam@gmail.comOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
