On Sept 7th, Harrington Park held its annual Town Day celebration at Highland Field. This event was organized by Councilwoman Michelle Ryan and the Recreation Commission. Community organizations were invited to participate. Some special events of the day included a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mayor Paul Hoelscher and several members of the community and county executives to designate all parks and fields in town as smoke free. This is a positive move that will benefit residents and visitors that frequent our beautiful parks and fields. Also, the mayor and council commemorated Mr. Ken Snyder’s service and commitment, as recreational commissioner for 25 years in Harrington Park, by dedicating the basketball court at Highland Field in his name. With this sign in place, Mr. Snyder’s efforts will continue to be remembered for years to come.
Once the ceremonies were complete the Town Day festivities began and there was something for everyone! The attractions and activities included- pony rides, a petting zoo, a rock climbing wall, many inflatable rides including water slides, a kiddie train, face painting and balloon art. The Junior Women’s Club ran the food hut and provided tasty food and beverage options such as hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, water, soda, popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones and baked goods – available for purchase. Community organizations were well represented with the HP Ambulance corps, Fire Department, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts hosting tables and activities.
