Not all those who wander are lost

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAll that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy husband and I attended a really interesting and fun TEDx conference on 4/12 at Connecticut College: the theme was “Not all who wander are lost” and the TED talks covered all sorts of types of wandering.

We can wander in space and time and imagination…and so much more!

The phrase will be familiar to readers of The Lord of the Rings, as the poem “All That is Gold Does Not Glitter” is featured in this wonderful fantasy novel by J. R. R. Tolkien.
