A cleanup of the Bogert’s Mill bridge area and the west side of the
Hacksack River/reservoir took place on Saturday Nov 16th. The cleanup was sponsored by Harrington Park’s Environmental Commission, Green Team and Beautification Committee in conjunction with United Water & the Bergen County Clean Communities Program.
Eleven enthusiastic volunteers enjoyed sunny 60’ weather while cleaning up the grounds by the bridge and by the river.
Thank you to Cindy Kennedy, Anne and Lynn Lander, Tim Murphy, Judy Hunter, Tom Gleason, Nick Pedersen, Vivian Holzer, Mary Ann Schran, and Michael Mullaney (a HP School Green Club member!!) for helping keep Harrington Park clean and green. A special thank you to volunteer Councilwoman Michelle Ryan, who also coordinated the clean up!
What was found and collected for proper disposal: 3 tires (two were fished out of the river, one was dug out of the mud!), 3 large plastic garbage cans, a plastic choochoo train, LOTS of golf balls, several plastic buckets and a lawn chair, the usual beer and soda cans, nip bottles, many plastic bags, chip bags, cigarette packages, also …a rabbit hutch (!) and an old TV. The Harrington Park banner will be cleaned and put up again on a utility pole.
Three large barrels were filled with recyclables.
The volunteers also removed branches from the old burying ground on Old Hook Rd.
The Green Team plans to hold a spring and a fall cleanup in 2014. Please contact us with any comments or suggestions of areas to clean up next year > hpgreenteam@gmail.com
