Harrington Park Town Day was held on Saturday September 21st from noon to 4pm at Highland Field. The Green Team/Environmental Commission had two tables full of produce and giveaways. As in the past two Town Days, the Green Team was promoting local farmer’s markets and produce markets (Buy Fresh, Buy Local). This year we had DELICIOUS apples, corn, vegetables and mums from Stokes Farm, mums and pumpkins from Trader Joes, as well as the very popular stuffed bread, rolls and baguettes from Amato’s. Thank you to everyone who purchased food or flowers or who made a donation. (Proceeds from 2011 were used to purchase the pictured banner; proceeds from this year will be used to purchase a tree). Green Team volunteers gave away free items from “Clean Communities”- including pencils, pens and reusable shopping bags. We also handed out information about local farms and farmer’s markets, promoted composting- with the demonstration Earth Machine™ composter, and enjoyed speaking with local business people about the Direct Install program. This program helps small businesses pay for 70% of the cost of making their buildings more energy efficient. Look for a future posting on this topic. The weather could not have been better, the turnout was great, and it was a really fun and successful event!
Many local organizations (Scouts, Teens for Tomorrow, the Junior Women’s club, and many more) and local businesses were represented. Here are several pictures taken duirn gthe afternoon of the petting zoo, the train, the dog competition, the climbing wall…and more. Many thanks to Councilwoman Michelle Ryan, the liaison to the Recreation Commission, and to Recreation Commission members Steve Paccico, Tom Gleason, and Jennifer Brackenberry, for organizing and running this fun annual event! Thank you DJ Any Walker for your upbeat music! And thank you to United Water and the Bank for New Jersey for sponsoring Harrington Park Town Day 2013.
