3.65 tons of paper collected (!) and more from April 27th at Borough Hall

April27_7April 27th turned out to be a beautiful day! Quite a few people came to Harrington Park Borough Hall to check out the various activities.April27_6April27_8The EC/Green Team table had a steady stream of visitors who looked at the ANJEC recycling display, learned about electronic and hazardous waste disposal dates, local farmers’ markets, the Stokes Farm CSA and learned about home composting.  All five Earth Machine™ composters were sold ($54 each, on consignment from the BCUA). In addition to answering questions and promoting home composting, Ann Lander, Cindy Kennedy, EC Chair Peter Ardito, and Councilwoman Michelle Ryan sold humus for the DPW, for home delivery in early May. April27_4A 2 cubic yard sample is pictured on the back of the truck; the cost is $10 for a cubic yard, min order 2 yards. April27_9 94 cubic yards were sold!! To order (call soon!) or for more information, please contact the DPW at 201-768-0944.

The BCUA provided a truck to shred confidential papers.  April27_3This collection turned out to be VERY successful Over 100 people brought papers to shred and 7,300 lbs of paper (3.65 tons!) was collected. April27_1The EC/Green Team hopes that this would have been recycled and not put into the waste stream, but it is above average for a town collection and way above our previous collections (10/16/10– 3,260 lbs, 9/17/11- 2,010 lbs, 4/28/12- 1,600 lbs) Way to go HP!April27_5

The Harrington Park EC/Green Team will have an information table at the HP Library Rummage Sale on June 1st _ see you there!
